Key Largo to Geiger Key to Key West – October of 2018
Our first trip to the Florida Keys was in an RV, and it was a great adventure!
In October 2018, we planned our first trip to the Florida Keys with friends AND our first vacation in an RV. It was a great time, and we have since had other amazing RV adventures, but this one started it all!

We drove from Tampa, Florida, to Key Largo, Florida, and made it to our spot at Calusa Campground and Marina just after sunset, just time to settle in with drinks and stare at the stars.
To our surprise the neighboring spot was a million-dollar mansion with a dock that lit up the water and out of nowhere came a baby dolphin and its mother zooming by – we still aren’t sure we really saw it but it’s an incredible memory for our first night in The Keys.
The next day, we woke to beautiful views and made breakfast and Bloody Marys. Then we headed to Divers Direct and bought complete snorkeling sets to teach Mark how to snorkel for the first time in no other place than Cannon Beach in Key Largo. I am still laughing, thinking about Mark trying to walk into the water in his flippers for the first time.

Next, we headed south, stopped to feed the Tarpons at Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada, had an incredible meal (best fish tacos ever), and then checked in to our last destination at Geiger Key Marina, RV Park & Fish Camp.
This place had all the amenities. That night, we had drinks at what we now call the UFO/trash beach – you had to be there… We rented kayaks and went snorkeling and lobstering around Geiger Key, and there were so many beautiful fish and corals just off the sea wall of our camp.
From there, we took an Uber to Key West and experienced Mile 0, The Southern Most Point, Fantasy Fest, Duval Street at night, and a beautiful Key West sunset.
We also took a day to visit the gorgeous beaches of Bahia Honda State Park and saw so many sharks.
On our way home, we stopped and stocked up on souvenirs from Shell World and drove through the Everglades for the first time while dreaming of the next epic getaway.
We were instantly hooked and in love with the fact that just a few short hours away, it was an out-of-this-world paradise just waiting to be explored again and again!
