Hi! Mark and Brittany here – Welcome to our husband and wife adventure blog!

Sunshine and Sand Dollars is a Florida-based blog focusing on local vacation spots and traveling the world – Plus everything Disney! We enjoy sharing photography and videos of the products, places, and activities we love and writing detailed posts to engage with our growing audience.

A little bit about us – We were both born and raised in Ohio (me-Dayton ~ him-Sandusky), and we met as twenty-somethings living in Columbus, OH, in 2009. The lack of sunshine and the desire for a total life change led us to pack up everything we owned, quit our jobs, and move to St Pete, FL, in 2015.

Why did we move to Florida?

We moved to Florida because we wanted a more positive and active lifestyle. Florida is called the Sunshine State, and St Pete is called the Sunshine City, so moving here was a no-brainer for us. 

Besides better weather than in Ohio, we also had the desire to be involved with animal advocacy and rescue. We found Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, FL. Mark and I were volunteers from 2015 – to 2023, and I was a staff member from 2018 to 2023. I was the online sales manager, contributed my photography, design & marketing skills, and was a social media content creator and admin. Big Cat Rescue decided to close the sanctuary, sell the land, and relocate the animals in 2023- at which point I was let go. I was devastated to lose my dream job and the animals we loved and cared for, but now it’s time to move on and look forward. You can read more about what’s next on my Transparency Post.

While it’s been a challenging road, we can’t wait to see what comes next for us – we want to share all the things we love about living in Florida, traveling the world, and everything Disney.
