“If happiness is the goal – and it should be, then adventures should be top priority.”

Here’s another #FlashbackFriday for you! Last year we had an amazing trip to the Florida Keys for Christmas 2020 and enjoyed unplugging for a few days. Like everyone in the world, the year 2020 proved to be an extremely tiring year with too many changes and hurdles to count. That’s why we, along with our favorite travel buddies, decided to escape for a long weekend to celebrate Christmas in the Florida Keys.  While this year has also proved to be equally difficult if not more so… I thought it was time for some reminiscing…

Boating and snorkeling, amazing food and drinks, sightseeing, dreaming up the next adventures and setting positive goals for the approaching new year. Goal #1 was taking a time out and making self care a priority!

We stayed several nights at Coconut Cay RV Resort and Marina in Marathon, Florida and had incredible sunsets, the best camp meals, enjoyed boating and snorkeling right from their docks and basically had everything we needed to have a perfect “keep to ourselves” Christmas.  It was even cold at night which really evoked the holiday spirit! We decorated a small tree in the RV and each had our own ornaments, watched holiday movies at night and of course made all the holiday drinks we could dream up!

We visited Bahia Honda State Park, drove around many of the different Keys stopping to take touristy photos and look for wildlife – we finally saw Key Deer!!!

We hung out in Key West and walked Duval Street, ate at Sloppy Joes, drank at Captain Tonys, visited the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, and went to The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory.

Our last stop was the Tree Bar for fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit drinks and pizza from Ricks Entertainment Complex which features 8 different establishments – some we had visited on our last trip for live music.

It was another memorable visit and we really hope to go again soon. Thanks to our wildly talented friend adopting my love for all things Mid-Century Modern, we were also gifted an awesome custom handmade painting for our new home that now reminds us of Christmas in the Keys every time we look at it!
