Disney Annual Passholder Preview

I’m still playing catch-up on tons of content that we’ve collected over the last couple of years, so I wanted to share a fun experience we had about a year ago. In March 2023, we were grateful to get the opportunity to preview the newest ride at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom—TRON Lightcycle Power Run!

Although we have been pass holders since 2017, we have only obtained three Annual Passholder Sneak Previews. It can be extremely difficult to get an Annual Passholder Preview because they only have so many dates and times available, and the reservation queue has very long wait times and often sells out within an hour. We are grateful to have also previewed the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Epcot and Moana’s Journey of Water in Epcot—check them out at the links!

TRON Lightcycle Power Run

The TRON Lightcycle Power Run is a high-speed roller coaster attraction themed around the Tron franchise. It originally debuted at Shanghai Disneyland as one of the park’s signature attractions and has been immensely popular there.

The TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction has been recently added to Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It is the first new attraction to be built in Magic Kingdom since the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was introduced in 2014. This ride draws inspiration from the TRON attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and has been described as an exact copy. Guests ride on lightcycles, vehicles inspired by those seen in the Tron films.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Magic Kingdom is a thrilling, high-speed experience through the digital world of Tron, featuring futuristic visuals and innovative ride technology. The ride has a unique way of transporting passengers, unlike any other coaster I have been on. It was awkward initially, but once the ride started, I barely noticed how I was sitting (imagine leaning forward on a motorcycle but also being strapped down around the calves).  This is also the first ride at Walt Disney World with mandatory locker systems, much like my Universal Studios blog post described. Because this is a fast coaster with a unique vehicle you are not able to take any bags with you of any size or kind on this ride. Most rides in Disney theme parks have space for you to place a backpack or small bag on the ride with you. TRON does NOT.

We immensely enjoyed this ride! The futuristic queue, intense music, complimentary lockers, and excellent lighting effects make this a welcomed addition to Magic Kingdom for thrill rides.  My only complaint is that it should be longer! The amount of time on the ride is short but sweet.  I love that it’s indoor and outdoor and has incredible night views of the castle!

What’s an Annual Passholder Preview?

A Disney Annual Passholder preview is an exclusive event for individuals who hold an annual pass to Disney theme parks. These previews typically allow passholders to experience new attractions, entertainment offerings, or themed lands before officially opening to the general public. It’s a way for Disney to reward its loyal passholders by giving them early access to the latest experiences and generating excitement among the dedicated fan base.

As of March 2024, Tron Lightcycle Power Run has been running at Magic Kingdom for a year! Currently, this attraction operates with a Virtual Queue only—there is no standby line. You must either use the My Disney Experience app to enter the virtual queue or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane.

What’s a Disney Virtual Queue?

The Disney virtual queue is a system implemented by Disney to manage the crowds and wait times for popular attractions. Instead of waiting in a physical line, guests can join a virtual queue through the official Disney Parks app. Once you enter the virtual queue, you will receive a return time when you can return to the attraction without waiting in a long line.

Virtual queues are used for attractions with high demand, or immersive experiences that may not accommodate traditional standby lines. We have always enjoyed rides and attractions with a virtual queue. If you are lucky enough to snag one, it can save you lots of energy and time from standing in lines!

Festival of Fantasy Parade

You can’t go all the way to Disney’s Magic Kingdom and only do one thing, so of course, we stayed after our turn on Tron and got a good spot for the Festival of Fantasy Parade!!! It’s one of my absolute favorites to photograph!

The Festival of Fantasy Parade is a daytime parade held at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It debuted in March 2014 and quickly became one of the park’s most popular and beloved parades.

The parade features intricately designed floats, vibrant costumes, and beloved Disney characters from various animated films. You can expect to see characters from classics like “Peter Pan,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Tangled,” “Brave,” and more.

Each float in the Festival of Fantasy Parade is beautifully crafted and showcases a different Disney story or theme. The parade includes live performers, dancers, and energetic music, creating a lively and immersive experience for guests of all ages.

The Festival of Fantasy Parade typically runs twice per day, usually at Noon and Three each afternoon. It follows a route through the streets of Magic Kingdom, allowing guests to enjoy the spectacle as it passes by. It’s a popular attraction for visitors and adds to the overall magic and excitement of the Disney experience.

Naturally, we ended our day with some delicious Casey’s Corner. There’s no better way to end an incredible visit to one of the most magical places on earth!

  1. The Main Street Electrical Parade will always have a special place in my heart, but I did really enjoy the Festival of Fantasy Parade. I’m sure it’s changed some since I’ve seen it several years ago.
